WHAT IS AN AIR FRYER?
An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that uses convection to rapidly circulate hot air around food to cook and crisp it up. It’s essentially a mini convection oven that fits perfectly on your countertop.
INGREDIENTS
Making air fryer croutons could not be easier! All you need is two ingredients…
Bread: You can use any bread but my favourites are sourdough or a more crusty loaf than regular sandwich bread. It’s best when it’s a day or two old.Olive Oil: You don’t need much, just a light drizzle on top of the bread cubes.
That’s it. Of course you can go crazy with seasonings if you’d like something extra. You’ll want to add a little seasoning to the bowl when you’re mixing the bread cubes and the oil before air frying. Honestly plain croutons are my favourite as I use them with food that is already flavourful, but if you’re wanting to give it a go here’s some you might want to try:

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER CROUTONS
Cut your bread slices into cubes. Put bread cubes into a mixing bowl and cover with olive oil, using with your hands to mix to ensure they are evenly coated. Pour the bread cubes into your air fryer basket and spread them out into a single layer. Cook on 180C / 350F for 3-5 minutes, shaking the basket every minute or so, until golden and crisp. Let the bread cubes cool on a plate, then use immediately or store in an airtight container.
STORAGE ADVICE
Homemade croutons can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for at least a few days, if not more. Just make sure they are cooled completely before adding them to the container.
TOP TIPS
Want to make these in the oven? Pour the bread cubes on a baking tray & cook on 180C / 350F for 5-10 mins, giving them a stir halfway. You can use any bread for croutons BUT for the best croutons use a thicker cut sourdough (white, wholegrain, rye - it all works) that is a day or two old. Stale bread is great for making croutons.Be sure to shake the basket regularly. You want your croutons crisp and golden, not burnt!I’ve purposely kept this recipe simple but you can definitely add whatever seasonings you like. It all works.Use them immediately or store in an airtight container for at least a few days.
